Frequently asked questions

What if I need to refuel?

Fuel is included in your pricing, for up to 200km/day. You'll find instructions on how to top up vehicles that require fuel in the Mevo app.

You can find and activate fast-chargers to use with Battery EV vehicles in the Mevo app.

Am I insured?

Of course! Insurance cover is included in all Mevo pricing. When you're on the road with Mevo, you're covered with a $2500 insurance excess—lower than most rental cars.

You'll find options to upgrade your insurance cover before you unlock your vehicle in the Mevo app.

What about EV charging?

Mevo's Hybrid and Battery EV vehicles are regularly charged by our team. You can find charging locations in the app at dedicated parking around Auckland.

For fast-charging Battery EVs on longer trips, you can find route planning and fast-charger instructions in the app.

Where can I park the car?

With Mevo Flex in Auckland, you can end your trip in any approved parking space in the Flex Zone.

You can take one-way trips across the city, as well as collecting or leaving the car at Mevo's dedicated airport parking.

You can't end your Mevo trip in a different city to where you started it.

Is there anywhere I can't drive?

You can take a Mevo almost anywhere you like—the Mevo app uses Bluetooth to communicate with the car if you go out of cell reception.

You can't take our cars onto vehicle ferries, beaches, and some other locations as defined in our Terms and Conditions.

What if I need help along the way?

Fee Schedule

These fees may be charged from time to time in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

  • Reservation Length30 mins
    This is how far ahead of time you can reserve a Mevo vehicle before beginning your trip. Lapsed reservations return to the fleet, and repeated lapses may attract Reservation Non-Collection charges as detailed below.
  • Member Registration FeeFree
    Fee payable to register and check your driver licence details.
  • Airport Surcharge$30
    Surcharge payable on any trip that starts and/or ends at the Airport Flex Zone.
  • Excess Kilometre Chargelocal_gas_station75¢ or battery_charging_full35¢
    Charged when a vehicle travels over 200km per day (or part day) total on a trip. Use can be spread across multiple days on trip, e.g. a 2.5 day trip has a 600km allowance, which can be used at any point during the trip. Charged per kilometre (or part) over included allowance at 75¢ for combustion fuelled vehicles, and 35¢ for electric vehicles.
  • Pre-Booking Surcharge$9
    Surcharge for a pre-booked Mevo Flex Collection, applied when the vehicle is allocated to your account.
  • Pre-Authorisation Hold$15 Hold
    Temporarily held on your payment method when you reserve each vehicle. You won't be able to reserve a vehicle unless this hold is successful. The funds are released on the completion of your trip - they may take 1-3 business days to be visible, depending on your card provider.
  • Reservation Non-Collection$20
    Fee payable for any reservations which are not cancelled before they expire.
  • Lost Property Delivery FeeVaries
    Fee for delivery or postage of any lost property items recovered from within the vehicle.
  • Vehicle Callout Fee$60
    Fee payable for attending to a vehicle at the request of a member, e.g. to urgently retrieve lost property.
  • Unauthorised Parking Fee$60
    Fee payable for a vehicle returned anywhere other than an approved parking space in the city Flex Zones. This fee is in addition to any parking tickets or infringement charges incurred as a result.
  • Vehicle Repossession Fee$250
    Fee payable for a vehicle repossession event.
  • Loss of Use Fee$500
    Fee payable in the event of an impounded vehicle or neglectful accident. Additionally, the member shall be liable for the corresponding daily rate for any days the vehicle is out of service.
  • Vehicle Recovery FeesCosts + $100
    Applicable when a vehicle is not correctly returned after use and needs to be recovered. All costs incurred from towing and/or relocation of the vehicle plus $100 administration charge.

Electricity & Fuelling

  • Charging Idle FeesVaries
    Fees charged by the EV charging station operator for leaving a vehicle plugged in after it has finished charging. These fees are passed on to the member.
  • Energy Reimbursement Fee$35
    Administration charge payable for reimbursing a member for electricity/fuel costs where they elected to not use the Mevo recharging/refuelling method when it was operational.
  • Critical Vehicle Energy FeeCosts + $35
    Fee payable for any vehicle returned with electricity/fuel below 10% that can't be relocated to a supported charging/fuelling location and needs to be towed. All costs incurred from towing of the vehicle plus $35 administration charge.

Damage, Infringements, & Cleanliness

  • Infringement Administration Charge$10
    Administration fee for identifying and processing any Speeding Fines or Traffic Infringement Fees in line with Land and Transport Act.
  • Damage Administration Charge$35
    Fee payable for processing any incident reports.
  • Cleaning Fee (Member Requested)$40
    If a member returns the vehicle in a condition which requires cleaning and advises Mevo.
  • Cleaning Fee (No Notice)$60
    A cleaning fee charged when a vehicle is returned and Mevo considers it to have been left in a considerably dirty condition and no notification had been to Mevo regarding the dirty condition of vehicle.
  • Soiled Vehicle Fee$250
    For any vehicle requiring advanced cleaning.
  • Smoking Deodoriser Fee$250
    For any vehicles returned smelling of tobacco or smoke residue.
